Boson Motors
Who is Boson Motors
Boson Motors designs electric light utility vehicles for off-road, worksite, and agricultural use. Their flagship model, the LX40, is a fully electric, off-road utility machine positioned for farm and field operations.
The company emphasizes rugged performance paired with intelligent tech; an origin story that traces back to Silicon Valley and highlights features like an LFP battery platform and heavy-duty payload capacity for day-to-day work.

The Challenge
Boson needed a technical EV user manual that matched the pace of hardware iterations and field testing. Information lived across engineering specs, marketing copy, and support notes, creating gaps in safety language, maintenance schedules, and step sequences.
The manual had to be accurate for the LX40’s current configuration, easy to update for future variants, and clear enough that dealers, operators, and service techs could all use it without back-and-forth.
A further requirement was to align warnings and cautions with industry-standard signal words and place them exactly where users make decisions.
Our Approach
We ran a focused intake with product, engineering, and support to map “how the vehicle actually works in the field.”
From there, we built a topic-based structure (one task per procedure), created a controlled vocabulary for components and UI labels, and defined a consistent action-result format for steps.
Safety content was rewritten to follow best practices for placement and signal words, and maintenance content was normalized into intervals that operators can follow at a glance.
Finally, we set up a light versioning scheme so the same manual can ship as a print-ready PDF and web/PDF with model/firmware notes tracked in a change log.
The Solution
Technical User Manual (LX40): end-to-end EV documentation including quick start, pre-operation checks, charging and power management, driving/terrain guidance, towing/hauling, maintenance intervals with parts/fluids, troubleshooting trees, and warranty/owner responsibilities; edited and production-readied for release!
Safety & Compliance Layer: standardized DANGER, WARNING, CAUTION, and NOTICE usage with point-of-use callouts, PPE icons, and lock-out/tag-out references where applicable.
Service Aids: exploded-view callouts for major subsystems, torque tables for fasteners, maintenance log pages, and QR-linked micro-procedures for common tasks.
Update Workflow: section-level versioning, change history, and a template kit so future hardware/firmware updates slot into the same structure without re-layout.
The Results
Dealers and operators now get a single, authoritative manual that mirrors real-world use.
Common tasks (charging, pre-trip checks, routine maintenance) are faster to complete because steps, tools, and expected outcomes are spelled out in one place.
Support sees fewer ambiguity escalations since terminology and labelling are consistent across pages and diagrams.
Internally, product and engineering can revise features without breaking the EV documentation! The manual isn’t paperwork anymore; it’s now part of the machine, helping Boson move from first deliveries to full fleets, and we’re happy to be a part of that process.
