Written for Your Funder, Not for a Template
A credit union account manager, an Invest Nova Scotia analyst, and an NSNP program officer each score a plan on different criteria. We pick your reader first and build each section to what they check.
Lender-Ready Financials
Cash flow, break-even, use of funds, and sensitivity tables built the way BDC, the Big Five banks, and Atlantic credit unions assess them. Your numbers hold up in the credit meeting.
Nova Scotia Market Knowledge
Sub-market research for the peninsula, Dartmouth and Burnside, Bedford and Sackville, and the province outside HRM. A Spring Garden Road café and a Truro garage get different plans because they get different lenders.
NSNP Entrepreneur Stream Expertise
Business Establishment Plans for the Entrepreneur and International Graduate Entrepreneur streams, written to the Business Performance Agreement you sign with the province.
Bilingual, Confidential, On Schedule
Plans in English or French, an NDA on request, a fixed delivery date, and revisions included. Sensitive financial detail stays between you and your writer.

Key takeaways
- One reader. Your plan should aim at a named funder and the decision that funder has to make.
- Custom to your business. Your numbers, your market, your risks.
- Your address matters. A downtown café and a South Shore fish plant face different markets. Inside or outside HRM also changes your NSNP thresholds.
- No surprises. Flat price and delivery date in writing before work starts, with revisions included until the plan says what you need it to say.
Different Funders Ask Different Questions.
A bank or credit union account manager asks one question: can you repay in February? Halifax earns its money in a tourist summer and spends it in a quiet winter. They read your cash flow month by month and look for the slow quarter first.
An investor asks the opposite. Market size and upside come first. Invest Nova Scotia and ACOA often co-invest with private funds, so your plan may cross three desks before anyone writes a cheque.
A Nova Scotia Nominee Program officer asks neither question. They check your plan against your Expression of Interest and confirm your net worth and investment clear the floor for your location. They test whether you will create at least one full-time job for a Canadian citizen or permanent resident. Then they interview you on the plan before you sign a Business Performance Agreement.
Send the same document to all three and you lose at least two of them.
Aiming the plan matters more than writing it. The Write Direction’s business plan writing service starts by naming your reader, then builds backwards from the decision that reader has to make. Browse our sample work to see the gap between a lender plan and an investor plan.
How Our Business Plan Writers Work
Work starts with a 30-minute discovery call by video. You tell us who reads the plan, how much you are raising, when the deadline lands, and what you already have. We quote a flat price and a delivery date on the call or within one business day.
From there we size your market from Nova Scotia, Halifax Partnership, Statistics Canada, and industry sources, map your competitors, and build three-year projections with you, line by line, using the same data analysis methods we apply to client reports. You approve the assumptions before we write a page.
You receive the full draft on the agreed date. Mark it up, send it back, and we revise under our Free Revision Policy until the plan says what you need it to say.
Final delivery is a formatted PDF and an editable Word file, with a pitch deck, one-page summary, or lender cover letter added if your funder asks for one. Most plans take one to three weeks from discovery call to final file. NSNP and investor plans run longer because the research and modelling go deeper.
Tailored Strategies for Nova Scotia’s Local Markets
Halifax Regional Municipality covers a downtown core, an industrial harbour, fast-growing suburbs, and rural coast. A plan that ignores which part you sit in reads like a plan written somewhere else.
Downtown Halifax and the Peninsula
Professional services, several universities, the province’s largest hospitals, and a cruise and convention trade share a small footprint. Rent is the largest fixed cost most of these businesses carry. Your plan has to show foot traffic and margins that cover it through the off-season.
Dartmouth and Burnside
The harbour’s east side holds ocean technology firms around the COVE innovation centre, port logistics, and Burnside’s industrial park. Many suppliers here sell into shipbuilding, defence, and marine research. Lenders study contract concentration and how you stay solvent between large orders.
Bedford, Sackville and the Suburbs
New housing drives demand for trades, childcare, fitness, and family services. Funders here want proof of local demand and a realistic hiring plan in a tight labour market.
Outside HRM: Truro, the Valley, the South Shore and Cape Breton
Seafood, agri-food, and seasonal tourism drive the rest of the province. Funders expect a plan that handles the months without revenue and names the labour source. NSNP thresholds drop here, from $600,000 net worth and $150,000 investment inside HRM to $400,000 and $100,000 outside it.
Different Sectors. Dedicated Financial Drivers.
A lender reading a restaurant plan looks at food cost and seat turnover. The same lender reading a SaaS plan looks at churn and payback period.
Reading a seafood export plan, they look at currency swings and buyer concentration. Reading a tourism plan, they look at how the owner pays staff and rent from November to April.
We write across ocean technology, marine services, seafood and agri-food, tourism and hospitality, construction and trades, healthcare, professional services, retail, and technology. In each one, we build the market analysis and financial model on the metrics that sector’s lenders use, with our own business research in place of sector averages lifted from a blog.
Choose the Right Plan for Your Capital Source
Investor Plans
You are selling a return. We frame traction, market size, and the financial model so angels, the investors around Volta, and Invest Nova Scotia see the upside early. The plan lines up with your investor proposals and pitch deck, so your story stays consistent across the documents they open.
Bank and Credit Union Loan Plans
Lenders want repayment. We build the cash flow projections, break-even analysis, and risk section that RBC, TD, Scotiabank, BMO, CIBC, BDC, Nova Scotia credit unions, and Futurpreneur assess, and we structure Canada Small Business Financing Program (CSBFP) applications the way a credit team expects to read them. The plan reads as a clear business case for the loan.
NSNP Immigration Business Plans
The province’s official Entrepreneur stream page sets the rules. You need three years of owning and managing a business, or five years in senior management, plus CLB 5 in English or French and an Invitation to Apply. Graduates of a Nova Scotia university or the Nova Scotia Community College follow the International Graduate Entrepreneur route after running their Nova Scotia business for a year. Nova Scotia began charging application fees on September 1, 2026. We write the Business Establishment Plan the officer reviews at interview and confirm current thresholds at the start of each project.
Tourism, Seafood and Seasonal Business Plans
A Nova Scotia business can earn most of its year in five months. We build the month-by-month cash flow, working capital line, staffing model, and off-season cost plan that lenders check before they finance a seasonal operation, alongside the pitch decks and one-page summaries other funders ask for, with our design team handling the visual layer.
The sections your funder reads first
- Executive summary that earns you a second page
- Market analysis built on evidence rather than optimism
- Operations showing how the business runs on a Tuesday
- Marketing and sales with a cost per customer you can defend
- Financial projections covering cash flow, break-even, and use of funds
- Funding request stating the amount, the terms, and the return
- Risk analysis that names the threats before your funder does
That last section wins more approvals than founders expect. A plan that hides its exposure to Toronto rents, hiring costs, or a single anchor customer looks naive.
A plan that names those risks and shows the business surviving them looks like a business run by an adult. For a section-by-section walkthrough, read our guide on how to write a business plan.
